Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, a 4cm tumor sits on upper left of the lung and on the aorta. Thoracic doctor will operate, however fears there is a possibility that the tumor may have stretched toward a branch of the pulmonary. In that case, is it still operable and if so, will the whole lung need to be taken out? Can a lung regenerate?
Operability of the tumor can be assessed by various radiological investigations like CT scan and MRI. In case the tumor cannot be removed in totality, partial resection and chemotherapy can be done. I suggest you to consult your onco-surgeon and oncologist.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shailja Puri, Pathologist and Microbiologist
