Suggest Treatment For Tremor And Dystonic Writer's Cramp

I have been suffering from Dystonic Writer's Cramp for last several years. Moreover I am having tremor in my hand which aggravates after lifting something heavy when my hands tremor becomes so distressing that I even can not lift a cup of tea. Of late the symptoms have aggravated further. I am 65 and a medical practitioner. Please suggest if drugs like Pacitane will be of help. Now I often have to take Diazepam as I can not take Beta blockers for allergic bronchitis with wheeze. Please suggest an useful remedy from this very distressing condition.

hi
I have read through your question and understood your concerns.
Firstly in dystonia in your case a writer's cramp tends to get worsen if you try to stabilise the cramp as you'll be overusing the muscle, which will worsen the condition.

drugs like pacitane are quite effective in masking the symptoms but do not treat the cause, just makes you dependant.

a dosage starting with 2 mg gradually increasing upto 15mg per day in divided doses is effective.

this does not provide a long lasting relief.

behaviour therapy is the best in your case. for a prolonged improvement of symptoms.

this is more like a disease that you cannot completely cure, but you can improve your symptom free interval for upto years.

you can approach a neurologist for further regular behaviour therapy.(its called behaviour therapy because you'll be training your hand in a systematic way that will cause may reorganization of the nerve connections in the brain cortex .)

Most of the studies show that the key to treatment mainly lies in relaxing and not using the affected hand, and
performing controlled activities in the opposite hand
activities regarding the same hand should completely be restricted(in your case at least upto your forearm muscles).

pls note:
during behaviour therapy, no medicine is to be taken.
improper training or straining the hand to prevent tremors only worsens it.
(if you want to use the affected hand try by using your accessory back muscles rather than your forearm and hands).

Wish you a speedy recovery..!!
