Suggest Treatment For Tonsils

Hi, I've been majorly suffering with my tonsils for almost a week now. I have white and red lumps all over my tonsils, my uvula and the back of my throat and my glands are really swollen in my neck. I'm dreading swallowing every time I know I need to do so because the pain is just so bad. I can't eat, drink, breathe or sleep properly. I went to my doctors who prescribed me some sort of penicillin but this does not seem to be taking effect yet. What should I do?

Hi,

As per your complain severe pain in throat along with white and red lumps over the tonsils seems to be probably due to a severe case of bacterial throat infection known as strep throat leading to pharyngitis and tonsillitis.

White pustules are pus pockets that further confirms towards bacterial infection. Only taking Penicillin will not resolve the immediate problem as it is an antibiotic and will help in resolution by reducing infection but can take for about 4 to 5 days.

You will have to take certain other medications and remedies for faster relief. Along with Penicillin you can also take:

- Anti-inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be taken to relive pain.
- Doing warm saline gargles, steam inhalation and using a humidifier in your room can be very much relieving.
- You can also suck throat lozenges to soothe the throat.
- Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine.
- Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water.
- Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity.
- Avoid spicy and chilled foods.

Hope this information helps. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks and regards,
