Suggest Treatment For Tonsillitis

I have a severe case of tonsillitis. I have over 50 canker sores in my mouth under my tongue and behind my lips, mostly concentrated on the roof of my mouth in the back making it impossible to eat anything more than a vanilla milkshake. I was prescribed 500mg clarithromycin tablets every 12 hours. How stringent is that time allotment? What would happen if I took them every 6 or 8 hours to get a better dose of meds in my system and help fight this off.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like bacterial throat infection causing Tonsillitis and canker sores are also due to it..

Clarithromycin is advised to you in appropriate dose and you should continue the same..

Along with it you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and suck numbing lozenges like Cepacol for relief..
You can also do warm saline gargles and drink warm water..
Gargle with antiseptic solution like few drops of betadine in water..
Chew Vitamin C pellets to boost up the immunity..
Take soft meals and avoid spicy and irritant foods.

In case if there is no improvement in 3-4 days, you can consult an Emergency room and get a throat swab culture done..
You can be advised other antibiotics like Augmentin..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
