Suggest Treatment For Tonsillitis While On Calpol-650mg And Hexidine Mouthwash
My 10 year old son weighs(46 kgs) is suffering from tonsillitis from past 3 days. Calpol 650 thrice a day and gargling with saline water and hexidine mouthwash has not helped. Can u suggest some other medicine which would cure the problem immediately.
It is very difficult to see our children ill and it is understandable to want to relieve his pain instantly but unfortunately this is not likely to occur.
Acute (recent onset) sore throat is most commonly due to either viral or bacterial infection. Viral infection is most common. If there is no fever, then he likely has a viral infection of the throat. If he has no fever and viral infection is likely, then you may want to switch to an anti inflammatory pain killer such as ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen.
One of these would work better than the calpol. Also use a mouth wash/spray with a pain killer along with the antiseptic such as chloroseptic or diflam or covonia throat spray
If he has a persistently high fever with significant discomfort, then it is possible that it may be a bacterial infection instead. In that case, he would need a course of antibiotics along with pain medication.
I hope this helps
