Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus

Hi Dr., I am a huge Kenny Chesney fan and a sandbar junkie @ the 47 shows of his I have done in 5 yrs, not counting rock concerts, and country bars. This yr I developed tinnitus in my right ear and am taking lipoflavonoids for it. It has went from a consistent loud chirp to a intermittent low chirp. Much more manageable. Just hoping I don t have to give up his shows when he goes back on tour in 2015 as long as I start wearing earplugs. Don t want my left ear to develop the tinnitus and my right to get worse and lead to deafness. So bottom line, am I safe to attend, as long as I wear earplugs? My neighbor works @ US steel and said he would give me a set of his really good plugs instead of using the cheap ones I have. Thanks for your time. Also if you have any other suggestions for relieving this symptom permanently, please help.

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello
Taking in consideration your exposure to loud noise and development of tinnitus sugests develppment of sensorineural hearing loss .
If the exposure to loud noise is not avoided the hearing loss will progress making the tinnitus worse and the other ear at risk of same. I would suggest you to get a pure tone audiometry done and avoid being in noisy places. Yes using ear plugs is a preventive measure but it is a method used when the noise is unavoidable like a occupation, but a concert for your hearing is not worth i guess.....
