Suggest Treatment For Tinnitus And UTI

I have tinnitus from an ear syringe, which subsided, but returned after a recent flight. I now need to take Trimethoprim for a urinary infection, but see online that one of the side effects is tinnitus. I have taken 2 Trimethoprim so far but am worried about finishing the 3 day course

Hi,

Tinnitus is a very rare side effect of trimethoprim and I think you can continue the drug without trouble. I have used Trimethoprim / sulfamethoxazole combination in may patients without this complaint. But, if you are too worried, there are other safer drugs like cefixime that can be used instead. We have to consider urine culture sensitivity report before making this change. Your doctor will guide.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
