Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of Anal Fissure

I have anal fissure and must have had this for years, last october my gp said I had low blood count for iron and gave me iron tabs. I immedately got constipation and the bleeding started so my doc said stop the iron and use laxido for the constipation, however the bleeding got worse and sometimes 3 times a day, then I was in horrendous pain for three months after every bowel movement. my question is could the iron tabs have made the fissure worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Symptoms of anal fissure include pain and bleeding during defecation. It may also cause itching and swelling in the anal region.
Most often, anal fissures become symptomatic and exaggerates due to constipation.
Hence, intake of laxatives and soft easily digestible foods would relieve pressure in the anal canal and temporarily relieve from symptoms.
However, it can be cured permanently by undergoing surgery called 'fissurotomy'.
Blood loss would certainly result in iron deficiency anameia, which would require iron supplementation for its correction.
Kindly consult Surgeon in this regard for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
