Suggest Treatment For Symptoms Of IBS

Two weeks ago I started experiencing IBS symptoms my- abdominal pain, alternate constipation and diarrhoea, bloating, excess gas and mucous elimanation through rectum. I started experiencing mild vertigo the exact same time my IBS was triggered. Is there a correlation between IBS and vertigo. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Yes, there can be vertigo in IBS.

Giving you treatment for each of the problem
1. Pain - Dicyclomine 20 mg orally four times a day
2. Constipation/Diarrhea - Psyllium 1 to 3 times a day
3. Bloating/gas - Combination of Aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and simethicone, after a meal, if required.

Follow these guidelines

1. avoiding sorbitol, found in some chewing gums, diet foods, and sugar-free sweets, as it can cause diarrhea
2. consuming more oat-based foods to reduce gas or bloating
3. not skipping meals and eating at the same time every day
4. eating slowly
5. limiting alcohol intake
6. avoiding carbonated sugary beverages, such as soda
7. limiting intake of certain fruits and vegetables
8. limiting tea and coffee intake to three cups per day
9. drinking enough fluids, at least eight cups of fluid per day for most people.

Foods to avoid.

Cabbage, broccoli, kale, legumes and other gas-producing foods
Caffeine
Alcohol
Dairy products
Fatty foods, including whole milk, cream, cheese, butter, oils, meats and avocados
Raw fruits
Foods, gums and beverages that contain sorbitol, an artificial sweetener
Dietary habit is one of the most important treatments in IBS.

Please do colonoscopy for the confirmation of IBS.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
