Suggest Treatment For Swollen Tonsils

My tonsiles are swollen, I treated it how i normally do with alcohol to burn the bacteria then put on salt which reduces the swelling and makes it go away. Something was different this time because when I woke up I started to cough up some blood 2-3 times when spitting.

Hi,

As per your query you have symptoms of swollen tonsils which seems to be due to upper respiratory tract infection, i.e. when infection from upper respiratory tract spread down the respiratory tract especially when left untreated or due to low immunity.

Need not to worry. For now, do warm saline gargles several times a day and apply warm compresses to throat externally. Avoid intake of outside food. I would suggest you consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis without any delay otherwise the infection will reach trachea or lungs. The doctor may order a throat swab test and blood test. The doctor may prescribe antibacterial or antiviral drugs along with anti-inflammatory and decongestant. The doctor may also refer you to a gastroenterologist if the problem is related to acid reflux.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
