Suggest Treatment For Swollen Toes And Foot Pain While Having Psoriasis

I am suffering from feet problems, two swollen toes ( not the big toes ) and the bottom of my feet hurt and feel puffy which makes it hard to walk. Doctors are not sure if it gout or psoriatic arthritis as I have mild psoriasis and are treating me with allopurinol for gout and hydrox I something for arthritis. I still have pain and some swelling but I am not sure whether to continue the drugs. Also taking metformin for type tow diabetes. Do you have a comment?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. As doctors are already examining you and doing investigations, plus you are taking all the required medications, only one suggestion comes in my mind for you.

Have you tested for diabetes recently? Sometimes, if diabetes becomes uncontrolled, it causes painful and swollen feet and toes. It may be the issue that current dose of Metformin is not sufficient to control your current blood sugar level and you may require dose adjustment or change of medicine. You can discuss this opinion with your doctor.

I hope this answer helps. Thank you for seeking HCM when you needed advise. I wish you get well soon!

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
