Hello and welcome to HCM, Lymph node enlargement is due to infection, inflammation or malignancy. Lymph nodes are draining sites of infections and inflammation from various body sites. For management of lymph node enlargement, first step is to determine the cause of lymph node enlargement. An aspiration cytology of the lymph node is necessary to determine the cause of lymph node enlargement. In this investigation, cells are aspirated from the lymph node, spread on glass slide and stained with appropriate stains. The stained cells are studied under the microscope and the nature & character of the lesion is determined. Depending on the cause of lymph node enlargement, treatment is instituted.
