Suggest Treatment For Swollen Arms And Hematoma After Placing An IV Drip
Hi, I was in hospital during the weekend and had an IV drip in my right arm. A few hiurs after having the IV drip removed and leaving the hospital, I noticed my arm was swollen, I have a large hematoma around the vein and it´s itchy. Also, I noticed my ankles are swollen. Sould I go back to the ER or do I wait until it goes away by itself?

Hello,
It can be a thrombophlebitis or inflammation of the veins after an IV access. As of now elevate the arm slightly and apply topical heparin preparations like thrombophobe. Generally it will get settle by itself. However the swelling of foot and ankle is unlikely related to it.
