Suggest Treatment For Swollen Ankles In A Diabetic Patient

I have diabetes and have been suffering from edema for a while now. The swelling in my ankles and legs would get worse toward the end of the day but would get better when elevated for a while. Now they seem to swell up worse and not go down as much. I recently felt a painful prickle sensation in the back of my right knee/top of calve area but it went away in a day but now I noticed that both my legs have been staying swelled and the right leg is slightly more swelled than the other. I have a burning, heavy, tingly sensation in both legs. No real pain where the right knee/top of calve area pain was before but see visible varicose veins that are squishy and rubbery to the touch. Could my severe swelling have cause inflammation in my veins or could I possibly have a blood clot as well?

Hello, Welcome to HCM.
I understand your concern.
You have not mentioned history of history of hypertension, any urinary problem.
Swelling of ankle may be due to failing Heart, kidney failure due to diabetes, liver problem, or varicose veins. It is advisable undergo investigations like blood tests including measurement of serum proteins, creatinine, sodium, live enzymes etc. You should also get you ECG, ultrasound of heart done.
Blood circulation in varicose veins can be diagnosed by doppler ultrasound of leg and can be done by a surgeon.
Please visit a physician & surgeon for further investigation & management.
Hope this will be helpful.
Thanks for your question. Take care.
