Suggest Treatment For Swollen And Painful Middle Finger

Hello I'm Norris
I have been experiencing unexplained pain in my middle finger in my left hand. The top part of my finger was randomly feeling sore and began to swell up within a few hours. I have iced my finger but the swelling has not gone down yet. My finger has been swollen for about 2 days, and is sensitive to touch, and hurts when being pressed upon, and feels weird to touch. What do you suggest I do Doctor?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have swollen and painful middle finger . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like rheumatoid arthritis , muscular dystrophy , multiple , sclerosis , injury to finger ,nodules and tumors . I would suggest you to immobilize your finger , do not use it for 2-3 days and put it in hot water with one spoon of salt for 15 minutes twice a daily . Also take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . If condition doesn't get well then consult orthopedic surgeon for proper diagnosis . Doctor will examine physically , order CT scan , x-ray or blood test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor will recommend physical therapy , prescribe anti-rheumatic drugs , fix finger with splint in case of fracture .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
