Suggest Treatment For Swelling On Ankle After Injury

I missed a step and rolled my ankle. I now have swelling from the outside bone, around the back and to the inside bone with tenderness to touch to the inside of the ankle Just below the bone. I also have a popping sensation to the inside ankle with movement. Do I need to see a doctor? Will it require crutches and casting?

It would be best to see a doctor to confirm the level of injury. Some ankle injuries require some kind of immobilization with a brace, or in severe cases, even a cast. The popping sensation and degree of swelling suggest a fairly significant injury. If not treated properly, this could result in future weakness of the ankle and increased susceptibility to further injury. In the meantime, keep it elevated, used ice packs, and don't bear any weight on it. Hope this helps.
