Suggest Treatment For Swelling In The Jaw After A Tooth Extraction

I had a lower wisdom tooth extracted 4 days ago. My cheek and lower jaw continued to swell bigger through the third day. Today when I woke up I noticed the swelling is down, but the swelling in the lower area of my cheek is very hard. I don t have too much pain unless i try to open my mouth to eat and haven t noticed any other unusual symptoms. Is the hard swelling something to be concerned about or is this normal?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of swelling in the jaw after wisdom tooth extraction which is very common as force required for extraction of wisdom tooth is very much and it will take around 10 days for proper healing of socket as tissue laceration is very high after extraction. Mainly jaw swelling occurs is because of less compression after tooth extraction. Need not to worry as it will subside slowly after application of ice pack. Keep applying ice packs on jaw line on daily basis. You swelling of jaw will subside soon. I would suggest you to visit dentist once again and get it examined completely and start treatment accordingly.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
