Suggest Treatment For Swelling In Feet And Ankles And High BP

I have been taking Amlodipine 10 mg one daily for high blood pressure, for over 5 years. My legs , ankles & feet are so swollen that I cannot wear shoes. This has been on going for at least a year. My doctor took me off the Amlodipine today and said to just monitor my blood pressure. My question is... Can I just abruptly stop taking this medication without rebound effects? The doctor did not put me on any other kind of high blood pressure meds. I am a 74 year old female, and I am obese. I asked the doctor what I should do about my weight, as I do believe I have problems with wheat and other foods. His reply was... stay off pork and all dairy products, especially cheese, and your body will lose weight. I am very concerned about a rebound effects from quitting Amlodipine cold turkey. Thank you for your help.

Hello,

It does not sound right. Amlodipine is most probably the cause of your leg swelling so it is the right thing to stop the medication but you should definitely be on another drug to control your blood pressure. Regarding your weight, eat right and exercise. It will definitely help you long term and you will see results. Please contact your physician for pressure medication immediately.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
