Suggest Treatment For Swelling Around Knees And Lower Legs With History Of Knee Replacement

I have a partial knee replacement on my right knee six months ago. After my physical therapy I did not do the exercises that I should have done. I have oesiperosis in my right hip and am taking some medication for that. I weigh now more than 200 lbs. My doctor has told me that I have pre-diabetis. I have now swelling in my ankles and my lower legs. What I am concerned about is my swelling a symptom of diabetes and what can I do about my swelling. I am wearing compression stockings. Can exercise help?
