Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
2 questions: My mother is 65 and experiences moments when she involuntarily gasps like a yell sound and I ask her if she hurts and she says it s like a stomach pain that catches her. She cannot tell when it will happen. It is random but often enough that I notice it. Second question has to do with something she describes as fluttering in the chest (today). Her nose makes a whistle when she breaths and wakes her up at night and she wakes with mouth open and dry. Obviously she is not getting good oxygen flow. Any thoughts on these issues?
Hello This type of yell sound is just gasping ( opening of mouth for air ). This question is also related to second question. As you mentioned that there is whistling sound from nose . Actually , this is due to bronchoconstriction ( may be during inhalation or exhalation ) . Bornchoconstriction is caused by some allergens . When such patient visit I advise them to take montelukast+bambuterol , one tablet in the night . While another reason of such yelling sound is due to hyper acidity caused by fried or greasy or pizza type food . The best way is give her pantoprazole-d on empty stomach early in the morning .But get in blood for hemoglobin examination ( for anemia ). Since this is a prescription drugs so consult your physician and get his prescription. Good luck.
