Suggest treatment for stomach pain and loose stools Hello doctor! My 2year-old son is suffering from loose watery stool for 3 days now, tummy aches and had stool exam with this result: fat globules=moderate, yeast cells=few and pus cells=0-1/hpf..what does this mean? What medication should i give?
Diarrhea for only 3 days and with no blood or mucus is very likely to be due to a viral infection. Generally, medications against diarrhea are not recommended in children as they may have many side effects with not much therapeutic effect in children. All you need to do is to keep your child hydrated. You can give him oral rehydration solutions, accessed over the counter in pharmacy, in small frequent amount. If you think he is not taking enough fluids, or if he is peeing less than usual or he does not keep the fluids in, you will need to have him checked with a doctor and see the need for infusions.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
