Suggest Treatment For Stiffness In Neck

Hello, I am a 80 yr old female who woke up with an extremely stiff neck and I have mild muscle pain getting in an out of the chair. The stiff neck began about 2-3 days ago, I can move my head from side to side and up and down but it is very painful. The main problem I am having is the stiff neck. I have an apt with my pcp on 1/5/15 for the stiff neck but I would like some type of advice as to how to treat the stiff neck while waiting for my 1/5/14 appt. I have htn and currently taking warfarin (angioplasty in 1989, no bypass no heart attack) and also carvedilol, symvastatin, triamterene-hctz. My email address is YYYY@YYYY

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query.Your problem can be due to muscle strain or cervical spondylosis. A physical examination with an orthopedician followed by a X ray of cervical spine if needed will rule out that. For such case i advise NSAIDs like aceclofenac , muscle relaxants like thiocolchicoside and neurotropic drugs. Local application of gels containing diclofenac and capsaicin also will be helpful. If long standing physiotherapy and soft cervical collar will be needed.Hope this may help you.
Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
