Suggest Treatment For Stabbing Pain In The Abdomen And Sharp Back Pain

Left side very sharp back pain with stabbing pain into my lower left stomach. I also in the past two months developed a dripping sweat when working - really big change. Slightly dry mouth with huge thirst; however, even after triple my normal intake of water my urine is very yellow. I went to the doctor today having so much pain it made me vomit - a first in my 70 year life ... for this type of issue. I have severe stenosis in my upper 2-4 that I should consider surgery for ... I passed. I had urine test for kidney stones that came back negative - no history. They are running a thyroid test - no results for a few days. Otherwise very healthy . Meds: 81mg aspirin pm, low dose simvastatin pm, 5mg amitriptyline pm, 1 fish oil tab pm, 1 glucosamine w/c pm Gerald B

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, you need to have an ultrasound for the pain in left side and any abdominal or kidney pathology should be ruled out.

Urinalysis may not be sufficient to rule out kidney stones and ultrasound KUB should also be done to rule out any urteric calculus or signs of hydronephrosis on kidneys.

Meanwhile anti spasmodic like drotavarine as well as OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
