Suggest Treatment For Soreness In The Ankle Of An Elderly Person

Ankle sore with a white spot and red all around the white spot is on top of a scare. The white spot gets whiter when wet. The pain is excruciating and goes up leg to the knee area. The doctor gave cream that made it hurt more and now it is worse and hard to sleep. She is 69 yrs old I m her sister and wondering if it could be a nerve infection in her leg and what to do about it. She tried soaking in epsin salt with no results.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Your symptoms seem to be related to an infection. I recommend using antibacterial soap to wash and dry the area.

I also recommend using an antibiotic cream for local application. I suggest you use anti-inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen for the swelling and pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
