Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Headaches

Hi

I went to a barber and had a shave, I know the blade was new. I had a small cut near my throat and the barber cleaned it with a balm stick, I just realized that he may be using the same balm stick for cuts of other people as well, Next day I have an extremely sore throat and slight fever and headache. You think there is a risk of HIV or I just had a bad coincidence

thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

HIV does not survive well on surfaces so this would reduce the chance of transmission of this particular virus.

It is unlikely that he would use the same stick to clean blood from different persons because he would be aware of the risks associated with this.

In addition, the incubation period of HIV is not 24 hours but a few days to weeks. The incubation period is the time from infection till when symptoms occur.

It is not likely that it is the cause of your symptoms. You have the common cold.
This can be treated by over the counter medication.

I hope this helps
