Suggest Treatment For Sore Throat And Cough When Diagnosed With Viral Tonsilitis
Hi There! I went to the doctors this morning and they diagnosed me with viral tonsilitis. No big deal, hydrate, gargle and just wait it out. However I seem to be experiencing a super sharp pain shooting up on one side of my tongue. It is extremely painful, lasts only for a few seconds, and occurs most whenever I am talking. I have had the sore throat and cough for about a week but this has just started today. Any idea on why such a thing is happening?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Sore throat and most other respiratory infections are mostly caused by viruses and may not need any special medications but for home measures like hydration, gargling with salt water and so on.However, throat infections could also be caused by bacteria.Persistence of symptoms for over a week and increase in pain intensity may mean a bacterial infection or superinfection since viral throat infections predisposes you for bacteria invasion.I will suggest you go back to the Doctor and request for a throat swap culture. The finding might be useful to help you get over your condition. I will suggest you continue with your home measures, add a mucolytic like carbocysteine and go to the Doctor for reevaluation. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
