Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have the feeling that my chest is completely empty of organs. Actually feels lighter. My breathing is shallow, and sometimes stops completely until I gasp for air like I have sleep apnea, but I m awake. Another way to put it is it feels like I m trying to leave my body. It s very relaxing. No pain. It s too relaxing. My extremities feel cold. Sometimes some fingers will go numb or partially numb (as in half the finger or half the hand). I feel so relaxed I feel week. Like I can barely move. I m not sure how to describe this to my GP in a way that will make sense.
In your case, you have all the described symptoms when you're awake and this means that the sleep apnea disorder is not your diagnosis.
In my opinion, it can be a psychologic or psychiatric problem that should be taken into consideration.
Anyway, my advice is to consult your local doctor for a total check up (blood work and ENMG of your extremities) to understand if you have any disorder that can explain your symptoms and if all the test are normal than the psychiatrist evaluation is necessary.
Hope this is helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.
