Suggest Treatment For Sleep Apnea In A Child

my 10 yr old grandson has mild to moderate sleep apnea (tested at 2.5), 2-3 strep throats/yr. Breathes with mouth open. Enlarged adenoids appears to be the problem. ENT MD recommending T&A. Is he likely to out grow this? Or should he have the surgery?Or just wait it out? DI-I-L anxious. All 3 of my children had theirs done after multiple ear infections. But that was 40+ yrs ago. Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello,

He should have the tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, with some tonsillar tissue sparing. He is not likely to outgrow it anytime soon. Of course there are always risks, but for this procedure they are quite, quite rare. I would imagine the improvement in his sleep will be well worth it.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Lisa Baker, Pediatrician
