Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Crestor

i had open heart surgery in 2011, have done well except my cholestrol stays hi, my doc gace me crestor, and it was so expensive it got so i could not afford it, so he gave me atrovastatin, i already had muscle cramps, but after the change in meds they go tos much worse. i was up 3-4 times at nite trying to get comfortable enough to sleep. it got so bad i stopped taking it altogether, now i see there is another generic for crestor, are the side effects as bad with this one, or do you know? he is going to be inhappy i know, but i was so stressed with the pain and no sleep i felt like i was protecting myself, thank you

Atorvastatin is associated with muscle pains. The condition is called statin induced myopathy. Even Crestor (rosuvastatin) can cause this side effect.
You mention that you had problems with cramps before the intake of statins. In that case, I would advice my patient for a baseline CPK measurement and decide on statins after that.
Now that you already have some kind of muscle symptoms, I would have tried Vitamin D if the CPK levels are within normal limits and the symptoms are bearable. If the CPK levels are elevated, then would try alternatives like ezetimibe to keep the cholesterol levels low.
