Suggest Treatment For Side Effects Of Amitriptyline

My 19 year old daughter has been taking amitriptylene for migraines for several years. She is also a high level soccer player. She is a freshman beginning training camp for her soccer college team. They are doing resting heart rate monitoring and has been reading about 100. She is very fit but has always had trouble with the fitness test . Amitriptylene has helped control the migraines but is it hurting her in her sporting endeavors. Thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

Amitriptyline can cause tachycardia and arrhythmia associated with an excessive release of cardiac catecholamines.

I suggest to consider an alternative medication such as Sumatriptan.

It is a prescription medication, so you should consult your doctor.

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
