Suggest Treatment For Shortness Of Breath Upon Minimal Exertion

I'm a female . 49 years ole . 67" tall and approx 187 pounds. I QUIT smoking 07/14. I smoked approx 25-30 years. I developed HTN. Started on metoprolol and it cause SOB . Switched to Atenolol and still experiencing SOB upon minimal exertion. I feel more SOB since quitting smoking and hoping on Beta blocker . HELP

Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

Due to long duration of smoking you might have developed a condition called Chronic obstructive Lung disease ( COPD).

Moreover in patients with COPD beta blockers will worsen the breathlessness and hence should not be used.

I would recommend you to get a chest x ray, pulmonary function test, and revert back. Also ask your doctor to start on Duolin inhaler for you and start tapering atenolol and use Amlodepine instead.
