Hello,

You have history of being a heavy smoker and presently you are experiencing shortness of breath. You had an X-ray done, it suggested a lesion shadow. Shadow in the lungs can be indicative of a tumor, it can mean a solitary nodule, or cancer. Shadow on X-ray may also be due to spots of chronic inflammation as a result of exposure to asbestos or other heavy metals.

You are suggested to get CT or MRI done for detailed study, so that when pathology is detected treatment can be started at the earliest. To treat shortness of breath, the cause will need to be treated with medicines and physical therapy. You can get connected to a Physical therapist, try some relaxing techniques so that your muscles relax and shortness of breath that you are experiencing reduces.

A heavy smoker has the tendency to deep breathe but when he/she stops smoking he quits deep breathing anymore like previously as a smoker. The chest finds this change strange and the muscles spasm give you a 'tight' feeling. Do deep breathing exercises each day, it will help to alleviate the symptoms. Avoid stress as it may make your muscles tensed and trigger shortness of breath.

Your chest is perhaps irritated with chemical sludge and tar that breaks down in your chest. Prefer to stay in fresh air instead of smoky air. Breathing and relaxation methods may help. But your dyspnea treatment will depend on what's causing your shortness of breath. Get treated you could need medication. You also might get oxygen. If you take medications, always take them as your doctor prescribes.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
