Suggest Treatment For Severely Decayed Right Upper Molar

I have a severely decayed right upper molar and one next to it that's cracked. I already made a trip to the e.r and got a shot for pain and some antibiotics(clindamycin) that I am currently taking along with aleve. The whole right side (teeth face eye ear head neck jaw) feel kind of numb. I have swelling on the right side of the roof of my mouth and it's scaring me. Its Saturday and I don't know a dentist open. I'm so scared I can't sleep. Should I be scared ? Or are the antibiotics keeping it from getting worse? BTW, I'm still in a little pain. But I think the anxiety is getting to me more than the pain.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

The swelling and pain is due to both cracked tooth and decayed tooth . The swelling in due to abscess formation , this occur when infection reaches the tip of the tooth and cause pus formation .

As you mention that you have been prescribed clindamycin by doctor . It seems to me that you need a broad spectrum antibiotics like amoxicillin for at least 10 days .

I would suggest you to continue clindamycin till you consult dentist as it will defiantly stop this condition from getting worse .

Apart from this do salt warm water rinses several times a day .

Avoid eating from the affected side and also eat food with moderate temperature .

Consult dentist for proper examination .

Dentist will order X-ray and performe test like bite test and optic fiber test for crack intooth .

Doctor may will prescribe antibiotics painkillers and anti inflammatory for some days and then perform root canal procedure on decayed tooth .

Doctor may splint the cracked tooth if the crack is mild or extract the tooth is crack ahs already reached the junction of two roots.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
