Hello and welcome to HCM, An ulcer in stomach needs to be biopsied or a small tissue needs to be taken out to rule out malignancy or cancer. Ulcers in stomach are managed by drugs which prevent the occurrence of ulcer and drugs which heal the ulcer. Thus, both these drugs need to be taken after prescription from your doctor. If the biopsy reports the ulcer to be benign, you are safe. However, if there are malignant changes in the biopsy report, the condition is serious and cancers of stomach are managed by removal of part of stomach or entire stomach.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
