Suggest Treatment For Severe Sore Throat In A 7 Year Old Boy

Hello my seven year old son has been complaining about a sore throat for the past three days. To remedy the symptom I've been giving him an OTC liquid medicine for sore throat and cold. It hasn't subsidedand now I'm noticing what looks like hives all over his face, neck, ears and shoulders. What could this be?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain sore throat can be due to throat infection caused by either bacteria or virus..
Hives seems to be due to side effect of the medicine that you are giving to him that might be most probably antibiotic syrup and at times it can cause allergic reaction leading to hives..
I would suggest you to consult a Physician and get evaluated and he can do a clinical examination and in case of allergic reaction he can advise you anti allergics like Benadryl..
H can also do a throat swab culture to rule out the exact nature of infection and in case if it is bacterial infection antibiotics of other groups that will not cause allergic reaction will be advised..
He will also be advised anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Doing warm saline gargles and steam inhalations will help..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and take a soft bland diet..
Drink warm water and plenty of warm fluids..
