I have a scalp infection that occurred from when I was brushing my hair to hard with a exfoliating brush. I had scraped my scalp causing the follicles to feel like nails were pounded in my head & were bent over. The pain was excruciating. I had put peroxide on a area which started to seep fluid. Not knowing I had exfoliated my scalp to hard as well . Next thing I knew my whole head opened up exposing my hair shafts. I immediately closed it by holding my head together. I have been on a antibiotic for a week now from going to the Er. where they thought I was crazy . However they did a ct which was normal. I then went to a dermatologist who was in a hurry as I wanted answers as to why my head was draining fluid but a elastic sticky substance as well that is pulling my hair into little holes & ponytails. When I comb thru this painful elastic stuff it just comes back faster than I can comb it out. The doctor just saw sore areas that were infected but had no answer as to what this was. I also drain out liquid that is hard as a rock when dried. They gave me a rx for a antibiotic ointment. I told the doctor I can taste it. She said you taste it? I said yes it s a sticky salty taste. She rolled her eyes and left.Is it possible I m draining spinal fluid? I feel pressure in one ear & have had a aweful pressure headache since this started. Along with stinging from my hair being pulled.
Hello, clearly your history suggests a scalpfolliculitis, You need a course of oral antibiotics against gram positive bacteria like with cap Cephalexin 500 mg four times a day for 7 days, along with an antiseptic scalp wash with cetrilak (20%) shampoo thrice weekly (apply on the scalp, leave for 10 min and then rinse off with water). The condition will take 7-10 days to resolve. I see that you are already on antibiotics but you havenot mentioned its name, if this antibiotic covers gram positive organisms (check with your prescribing physician), then you may need to continue the same for another week , else you switch to the antibiotic i mentioned. No, you cannot drain spinal fluid through your scalp lesions, for headache and ear problems, i would adv you to consult an otorhinolaryngologist, as this is unrelated to the scalp infection. Wishing you a speedy recovery Regards
