Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain In Ear Along With Low Appetite

Hi! I m a 19 year old female and I think I may have an ear infection, it started hurting really badly yesterday morning and it hasn t gone away. I got one about a month ago as well and that went away fairly quickly. Should I go get antibiotics or wait it out or..? And I apparently have family history of chronic ear infections so I m not sure if I should be worried about that either. And I ve had no appetite lately. For example I ll eat one egg in the morning, not because I m hungry but because I know I should eat, and then I won t be hungry for the rest of the day at all. Or when I do get hungry I have a bite of something and can t eat any more. Not sure if that s anything to be worried about either..

Hi Dear,

welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . Ear is very delicate organ and there are serious complications if we ignore ear problem. Although you have family history of chronic ear infection even then you should not take any medicine by your own assuming that you also have infection in ear.

Pain is just a symptom that indicate some problem in concerned organ . it should not be use to confirm diagnosis .

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) for perfect diagnosis and treatment . Doctor may use pneumatic otoscope for diagnosis of infection along with other tests like tympanometery, acoustic reflectometery or tympanocetesis.

If infection will be there doctor may prescribe antibiotic course along with ear drops . For now take ibuprofen (if not allergic ) or paracetamol for pain and swelling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
