After a few tests that night doctors that work for my liver specialist put me on intervinus and Hydromorphone for pain and later that night I was admited to stay in the hospital for a week to run some more tests and I was given for pain Pantoprazole and Hydromorphone... These were some of the things I ve been diagnosed with: 1.Peptic ulcer disease 2.Inflamed Pencreatis 3.Gastritis- Inflammation of stomack lining 4.Tiny Cyst in my liver 5.Liver Cirrhosis 6.Hep C 7.Low Platelates in my blood The team that work for my liver specialist had been giving me for pain 1. Pantoprazole 2. Hydromorphone during my stay in the hospital and when I was being discharged from the hospital I was told to continue at home to take for pain same thing Pantoprazole and Hydromorphone. Now it s mid July and my family doctor wants to take me off ov Hydromorphone... I am still in pain can she just take me off ov my pain meds? Can you please give me some advice becouse I don t know what to do I don t know how to cope without my pain meds throughout the day... I hope you can help me. Can she legally just take me off my pain medication when I still need it. Thanks in advance and I hope you can help me. Vicky.H.

Hello,

Your problem is a very hard one. You are walking in a tightrope here. I would be very tempted to refer you to a pain clinic.

With abdominal pain and liver cirrhosis, I would be extremely cautious using drugs. May I suggest TENS and electro-acupuncture--relieve some pain but far safer. I need more feedback before I can offer further advice.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Drlaw, General & Family Physician
