Suggest Treatment For Severe Pain And Numbness In My Foot During Cycling And Jogging After Being Diagnosed With Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome

I ve been having severe pain and numbness in my foot during cycling and jogging. I had a nerve test done and they determined it s a trapped nerve (the tibial nerve). They diagnosed me with tarsal tunnel syndrome. My dr has recommended a cortisone injection but I am hesitant because I have been told that cortisone never actually leaves your body. Also, the injection will be in my foot which is very close to my achilles tendon so I m worried about potential rupture of my achilles. Can you provide any input rearding my concerns? Thank you, 44 yr old Female

Hello,

Steroid injection is quite safe for this issue. The only way of treatment is surgery. If you can not perform steroid injection, surgery is the only the next step to follow.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
