Suggest Treatment For Severe Nausea While On Zofran

I am writing about Zofran. My 86 year old mother was in the emergency room yesterday with nausea and an impacted bowel. Does Zofran cause constipation? And, when can she expect to have a normal bowel movement again? She was given an enema at the hospital to help with the impaction but I am not sure she was completely cleaned out. It has been 24 hours since the hospital visit.

Hello, At 86 years food intake also is comparatively less. There is probably very little fiber in the diet. Plus if water intake is also less, stools can be less in quantity and can be hard too. Since she was given an enema, due to which most of the large intestine is emptied, which can further cause quite a bit of delay in resuming normal bowel movement. Because the intestine needs to be filled with waste product to be excreted. So she may end up having no stools for some more time.
To have regular passing of stools, adequate fiber content is essential in diet. Plus good amount of water intake also is needed. Plus person should follow regular bowel habits. Thanks
