Suggest Treatment For Severe Menstrual Bleeding

Hi! Dr. , good afternoon during my monthly period I am suffering from a heavy bleeding that can consume 4-5 sanitary napkin everyday. I am suffering this for a year and I decided to consult to an OB-Gyn and it was found out that I have a thick endometrium which measures 1.1cm. My Question : Is this realy cause of having a heavy bleeding during my period? Is there a medicine for a thick endometrium? thank you and God Bless!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear
I understand your concern
In pre-menopausal women,
normal values for endometrial thickness are
2 to 4 millimeters during menstruation,
5 to 7 millimeters during the early proliferative phase,
up to 11 millimeters during the late proliferative phase and
up to 16 millimeters during the secretory phase.
But if you have did USG during menstruation and early proliferative stage then it is higher than normal.
Thick endometrium can cause excessive bleeding.
Birth control pill and Progesterone pill will help in the treatment.
But rule out the endometrium dysplasia by endometrial biopsy.
If not responds then provera shot will use.
Lastly if not responds to medicine then D & C is the treatment.
Hope this may help you
