Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Pain, Jaw Pain And Dysphagia

Hello, my name is Emily. I have been experiencing pain in my neck, difficulty swallowing, strange voice changes, pain in my ears and below my jaw. The voice changes have been in the last couple of days. But the other symptoms have been persistent for about 2 months. I don t have the money to see a doctor just to be told I have a virus and there s nothing they can do. Do you feel that I should see a doctor or is this probably something that will clear up on it s own?

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern .As per your query you have severe ear pain, jaw pain and dysphagia . Well there can be many reasons for ear ache like ear infection , wax builup , eczema of ear canal , impacted tooth , trigeminal neuralgia and temporomandibular joint ( TMJ) . In your case it seems to me that the probable reason for pain is either TMJ problem due to accident or impacted tooth . I would suggest you to consult oral surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order tests like CT scan or MRI to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may also check the bite plane . Doctor may surgically remove the TMJ deformity if there is any or prescribed muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory or extract the impacted tooth depending upon the diagnosis . Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for ear pain . Doctor may examine ear with otoscope . For now eat soft food , avoid wide opening of mouth and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
