Suggest Treatment For Severe Depression

My husband was diagnosed with depression 4 months ago. After 8 months of treating me badly I suspected depression but he dismissed it and said we had a marriage problem he has had an affair left me emotionally abused me. He cracked after 8 months went to the docs and is on anti depressants now has been for 4 months he now blames his job for his inner pain. He is still distant to me and not the man I knew . How long does depression last and will he ever be the same man I married and lived with for the last 22 years as he is now like a stranger

Psychiatrist, Child 's  Response
FROM THE INFO PROVIDED BY U, HE DOES SEEM TO BE HAVING A DEPRESSION WHICH IS IMPAIRING HIS ABILITY TO FUNCTION WELL IN MARRIAGE AS WELL AS IN JOB.PL DO NOT WORRY...DEPRESSION IS TOTALLY TREATABLE AND, YES, U CAN EXPECT FULL RECOVERY
USUALLY DEPRESSION CAN LAST ANYWHERE BETWEEN 6-9 MONTHS. BUT UNLESS TREATED PROPERLY, WITH ADEQUATE DOSES OF ANTI-DEPRESSANTS, IT CAN LEAD TO A LOT OF DISABILITY.
I HAVE THE FOLLOWING SUGGESTIONS-
1. KINDLY CONSULT WITH AN EXPERT PSYCHIATRIST WHO WILL REVIEW AND OPTIMIZE THE ANTI-DEPRESSANT DOSAGES
2.COGNITIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY (CBT) CAN MODIFY HIS NEGATIVE AUTOMATIC THOUGHTS, WHICH ARE SO COMMON IN DEPRESSION AND THUS HELP HIM
3. GET HIS THYROID FUNCTION TESTS DONE-T3, T4, TSH. SOMETIMES HYPOTHYROIDISM CAN BE THE CAUSE FOR RESISTANT DEPRESSION.

TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS GOING THROUGH AND BE SUPPORTIVE OF HIM THROUGHOUT.

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Depression is a neuro-chemical disorder and needs psychiatric expert care and treatment for management and for possible cure. For sure, in many cases, the problem may be presenting itself occasionally. Proper care, motivation and treatment are essential. Clinical depression is usually treated with a combination of psychiatric medicines, psychotherapy, life style changes, meditation and exercise. I suggest you to work with the psychiatrist for possible intervention strategies.

Hope this answers your query. Available for further clarifications.
Good luck. Take care.
