Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough With Phlegm
my husband has had a nasty cough and spitting things up that were brown ,I think he has an chest infection it started at the throat and now is in the chest ,3 days later .he cannot sleep laying down without almost choking or gaging .he was at work today and started gaging and spit up something brown and he says that he got light headed and cross sided like the road had two roads and couldn t focus for two min is this a sign of a stroke?

As per your query yous husband has severe cough with phlegm along with choking or gaging . Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to many reasons , but in your case in seems to me that the symptoms are due to untreated upper respiratory track infection . When it left untreated and specially in case of low immunity the infection spread to surroundings like larynx , ear through eustachian tube or to lungs . I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order certein test like throat swab test , viral culture test ,CT scan and x-RAY of upper respiratory track . Doctor may prescribe antibiotic ( amoxicillin or penicillin ) at least along with decongestant , expectorant and anti histamine . For now do warm saline gargles and take steam twice a day . Doctor may also refer you to chest specialist .
