Suggest Treatment For Severe Cough, Sinus Pain And Headaches

Hi I was prescribed Rulide for a URTI 2 days ago. I had a cough, red throat and headache. I get sinus infections regularly. Day 3 and all symptoms are worse. My checks are so swollen I can hardly see my eyes, the pain over my sinuses is excruciating and the mucus I occasionally cough up is now yellowish red not sticky opaque white. I m taking Panadol for the sinus pain but not making much difference. Any other suggestions? Thanks Bev

Greetings.
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Well the problems you are mention do point out to sinusitis , but i am sorry the medication you are taking are exactly what should be given in cases of acute sinusitis.

If you had presented to me earlier i wouldn't have advised you any antibiotic , but as the pain is so severe then i would advise you a simple antibiotic . The main medication that you must receive is an antihistamine plus a decongestant , a pain killer and a nasal spray . This combination will resolve your problems quickly.

The medications i would suggest are:
1) Tab Amoxicillin/clavulanate 625mg one tablet three times daily for 10 days

2) Tab Ebastine 10mg one tablet every morning for 7 days

3)Tab Ibuprofen + Pseudoephedrine one tablet twice daily for 3 to 5 days depending on pain

4) Nasal spray Xylometazoline - 2 puff in both nostrils three times daily for 5 days

Within three days you will have a good response . But in case the response was poor then i suggest to get mucus culture and sensitivity done from a laboratory which will tell us if the bacteria is not responding to regular antibiotic . In that case some changes in antibiotic will be made. Rest of the medications will remain the same.

i hope the answer was helpful. In case you need any further assistance feel free to contact in writing .

Regards.
