Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . It seems to me that your are suffering from upper respiratory tract infection (include laryngitis which is reason for voice loss) from very long time . Sometimes during infection when we sneeze or through mucus forcefully through nose mucus goes into Eustachian tube ( tube that connect upper throat to middle ear and balance pressure of middle ear) and give feeling of clogged ear.

This infection if left untreated spread to surroundings like tongue (reason for taste loss) ,throat, ears and sometimes to brain also ( meningitis ). In flight there is change in pressure which further worsen the condition.

So i would suggest you to consult ENT specialist (ear, nose, throat) without any delay for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may order blood test for infection and throat swab test , because yellow mucus is sign of bacterial infection.

Doctor may prescribe antibiotics , decongestants and mucolytic agent like ambroxol for thinning of mucus so that it can easily come out of eustachian tube .

For now avoid forcefully throughout of mucus from nose , do warm saline gargle several times a day , take steam 2- 3 times a day,and take ibuprofen (if not allergic ) or acetaminophen for pain and swelling.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
