Have had a headache for over 1 month with a day or two reprieve here and there. Sensitive to light, kind of light headed but feel like it is due to my eyes? Extremely tired all the time and think I am going thru menapause as I have had no cycle for over 9 months. I just dont feel "right"? Been to the doctor, no answer? Have horrible anxiety attacks and cannot take any meds due to my anxiety???????

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. A lot of females in menopausal age develop restlessness, cold flashes, severe headaches, anxiety attacks etc symptoms. Changes in hormonal levels are the reason behind these symptoms. These symptoms are also called as menopausal syndrome. You have continuous headache since last one month and have horrible anxiety attacks which are also persistent. I'd advise you to consult a doctor for proper evaluation of your symptoms.

These symptoms can respond to hormone therapy as well as to anti anxiety drugs. Hormone therapy is associated with some side effects so personally I would advise you to go for anti anxiety drugs. Visit a psychiatrist for help. Medicines especially SNRIs like Venlafaxine, Duloxetine etc can help to reduce the headaches. These medicines will also help to reduce the anxiety and panic attacks. For severe headaches medicines like amitriptyline or nortriptyline etc can help. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.

Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
