Suggest Treatment For Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy

Hi, my name is Chad and I have had reflex sympathetic dystrophy since 2000. I have had 36 was sympathetic epidurals, ganglion nerve blockades, and many many medications that my body has been allergic to or rejected completely, some even causing horrible side effects. Gabatril, Nuerontin, and especially Lyrica caused very serious allergic reactions, also flexeril put me in a coma and lyrica messed up my eyes and head and I had to have surgery on my eyes. I have taken opiates since I was diagnosed as the RSD has spread from my legs and feet, starting in my groin injury, and worked its way up my trunk into my chest and heart wall. I am now in stage 3, and no there is no cure. My body has rejected morphine, dilaudid, oxycodone, and pretty much all other opiates. Now I only take suboxone which I ve been on and off for the last few years, my doctor trying other medications like kadian and other things during that time and my body having a reaction to each one, including Duragesic fentanyl patches. The suboxin does give me relief. I used to take the brand name tablets and then my insurance for me to take the films, which I know don t have the dose of medication that s listed. Today I went to the pharmacy and I received a generic tablet called buprinorhine/naloxone by rox. Which I have never heard before and looking up I cannot find anything on. I went to the Cleveland center and a doctor there but me on the ketamine trial list, and also asked if I ve ever tried Ziconitide. I have been through multiple pain centers which I have only made it more difficult, and gave up the nerve due to a puncturing of my lungs and almost death. I m looking for any alternative approaches to this devastating illness which is left to me disabled and unable to even do physical therapy because of the pain! I am at my wits end! I have had more than 18 blood clots now in both legs, as well as it has caused many many other illnesses and problems. Any advice would help! Thank you. I live in Lansing Michigan there are no trial programs around here for CRPS. Again any advice you can offer would or could help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of your system is immune process related and the multiple drugs are not giving precise or desirable results so far as pain relief is concerned. In my practice, I do have such patients with chronic agony and failure of multiple therapeutic trials as well.

Though it would be very much difficult, but now the best option for you would be:
- Try to adopt the lifestyle with moderate level of pain bearing
- Uplift your mind set up from the drug dependency as you already know that the molecules are harming you more and more than helping
- Natural healing approach with
@ Dedicated meditations sessions
@ Deep breathing exercises
@ Intensive YOGA
@ Mind relaxation techniques
@ Stress management fundamentals
- Try to manage sound regular sleep of 7 hours
- Take help of expert psychologist if needed in this regard
- Choose analgesic as acetaminophen which is harmless for long term use
- Avoid smoking, alcohol or any other recreational drugs if using
- Join patients with similar symptoms group online

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
