Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What would cause bright red dots on my 74 year old grandmothers lower legs and tops of her feet? She just worked (standing) for about 8 1/2 hours? One ankle is a tad swollen along with the dots. They do not itch, there isn t any burning & they aren t raised off the skin at all so I m assuming the color change is under the skin but it s never happened before. Any clue what could be causing this? And is there anything I could do here at home to make it go away for her?
These red dots could be related to deep vein thrombosis. For this reason, I recommend consulting with her attending physician for a physical exam and a Doppler ultrasound of the leg vessels. Other test to consider would be : D-dimmer plasma levels, complete blood count, kidney and liver function tests.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
