Suggest Treatment For Rashes After Getting Sulfa Injection
I had a fever for two days; aching joints; especially my right hip; went to urgent care; they gave me sulfa drugs and a shot for the pain in my hip; I broke out in a rash all over my body with tiny blisters on my fingers/palms/arms/legs. I was told it was an allergic reaction and gave me a steroid shot and new medications. The blisters hurt especially when I touch something. Any thoughts?
Corticosteroids are generally given for allergic reactions and they may be combined with antihistamines such as Loratadine. As for the blisters, you will need good care by a nurse to prevent them from being infected. You should not try to break the blisters as this may make them prone to infection.
On the other hand, blisters on the skin while having a fever may be due to staphylococcus infection as well so I would advise you to talk to your doctor and discuss if the blisters can be due to an infection from Staphylococcus aureus and if antibiotics for such infection are needed.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
